Investments in distressed debt are an important niche market in Luxembourg which has exploded over the last decade, contributing to the success of the Grand Duchy as a privileged place for the structuring of alternative investments in ET across Europe . The current COVID-19 crisis, the resulting economic turbulence AND the need for businesses to create liquidity should offer new opportunities for investments in distressed debt.

In general, investments in distressed debt are based on the acquisition of non-performing loans or other distressed debt instruments at a price lower than the nominal value.
