
The Schuman Declaration (May 9, 1950) - A founding milestone for Europe?

On May 9, 1950, Robert Schuman (1886-1963), French Minister for Foreign Affairs, proposed the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), thus laying the foundations for a united Europe, founded on the freedom, democracy and sharing. Follow seven decades during which the European project progresses from 6 to 27 members and evolves according to successes and crises, bringing to the continent the longest period of peace in its history. This memorable date was consecrated in 1986 as "Europe Day" and became, together with the European flag, currency, currency and anthem, one of the symbols of the European Union.
To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, the Europe Direct Information Center (EDIC) of the University of Luxembourg invites you to the webinar “The Schuman Declaration (May 9, 1950).
