Finance today operates in a vacuum, serving above all its own interests. But banks are supposed to meet the needs of society.
Finance the real economy and assess the risks for each investment: how could we forget the essential? Why do states so obediently serve the interests of the financial sector? Why are central banks (including the ECB) subject to the interests of finance and how does this limit their ability to respond to the next crisis?
These questions are not part of the democratic debate, even though these questions are fundamental and decisive for those who want to respond to the urgency of the great challenges related to exploding inequalities and climate change: Laurence Scialom will tell us why we must reclaim the control of the finance!
Presentation by the speaker: Laurence Scialom is a professor at Paris Nanterre University. She is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the French Prudential Supervisory and Resolution Authority (ACPR) and the Investor Advisory Committee of the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), in charge of the financial regulation division of the Terra Nova think tank and a qualified member of the the NGO Finance Watch.
