The general data protection regulation (GDPR) generalised personal data breach notifications obligations across industries and sectors. Data protection authorities across the EU now receive data breach notifications from organisations on a daily basis. More than a year after the entry into force of the GDPR, we will discuss, with the benefit of hindsight, when, what and how to notify a personal data breach to both the competent data protection authority and to the individuals affected by the breach.
