Henri Moissan (1852-1907), chemist and pharmacist, has by his works helped to give a great boost to modern science. His Nobel Prize was awarded to him in 1906 in recognition of the distinguished services rendered during the research and isolation of fluorine (1886) and for the adoption by scientific organizations of the electric furnace that bears his name.
