The financial turmoil has shown how important it is to understand and manage risk within financial institutions. In this context, the regulatory environment has evolved to strengthen the analysis and risk management skills within the sector.
This change should not be underestimated, especially in the context of the AIFM Directive. In fact, the risk management function is one of the two main functions (portfolio management being the second one) that must be part of a manager's activities.
This is particularly relevant for Luxembourg where portfolio management may not be fully realized within the manager and the risk management function will need to be strengthened or strengthened. The provisions of the AIFM Directive relating to risk management remain mainly based on principles and do not take into account the specificities of the different sectors concerned. The range of asset types in which an AIF may invest is virtually unlimited (bonds, equities, derivatives, funds, real estate, private equity, infrastructure, etc.) and the same applies to cover, for example). : Long / short, CTA, Neutral to the market, ... Real estate: Central core, Kernel +, Opportunist, ... Private Equity: Buyback, Secondary, Mezzanine ...).
Risk management policies, processes and procedures should be tailored to each asset class and risk profile of each AIF. Risk management is not new in the alternative investment management sector. However, the Directive introduces an increased formalization, prescribes the timing, scope and nature of the controls and monitoring to be carried out, at a level that many actors have not yet had to deal with. Future AIFMs need risk management experts who understand their business sector, the regulatory requirements and who are properly equipped to fulfill their obligations.
In this context, the PwC Academy has developed an advanced training program that provides participants with the appropriate level of knowledge, as well as a set of tools and techniques to align with and ready to respond. adequately to the expectations of the Board of Directors and investors.
