Conference n ° 3 "Democracy by 2030" - When the health crisis redefines citizen participation
The French-speaking Brussels Parliament presents the third conference of the cycle "Democracy by 2030: how the health crisis has led to the redefinition of citizen participation online and offline and what will remain of it?"
The health crisis has had major consequences on the functioning of our democratic system. The pandemic has particularly affected the processes of citizen participation, set up in particular to overcome the disenchantment with representative democracy and strengthen the quality of decision-making. The confinement broke certain dynamics of participation and consultation while forcing other initiatives, which were mainly based on physical deliberation between citizens, to completely reinvent themselves. What mechanisms will persist and disappear? How to combine the advantages of citizen participation online and offline? In unusual circumstances, how can we ensure that citizen participation remains inclusive and also benefits those furthest from decision-making?
